PSHE is an important part of our learning at St. Cuthbert’s as we believe that a good understanding of ourselves and our feelings is essential if we are to properly understand the world around us. Classes hold weekly ‘class meetings’, where children discuss personal and social issues and work collaboratively to come up with solutions to these issues. Circle times in the Early Years Foundation Stage and Year 1 focus on the development of emotional language and social skills. We also work in partnership with West London Action for Children, running ‘Mighty Me’ a group which aims to enable children to see problems as separate to themselves so that they can rediscover alternative (Mighty) stories about themselves. The School Council and Peer Mediation schemes which run at St. Cuthbert’s encourage a sense of maturity and responsibility in our children and help to give children a voice and create an atmosphere mutual respect. This year we aiming for the Healthy Schools Gold Award and are getting involved with the ‘Go Givers’ project, whereby children get involved in helping out in the local community.
