PSHE is an important part of our learning at St. Cuthbert’s as we believe that a good understanding of ourselves and our feelings is essential if we are to properly understand the world around us. Classes hold weekly ‘class meetings’, where children discuss personal and social issues and work collaboratively to come up with solutions to these issues. Circle times in the Early Years Foundation Stage and Year 1 focus on the development of emotional language and social skills. We also work in partnership with West London Action for Children, running ‘Mighty Me’ a group which aims to enable children to see problems as separate to themselves so that they can rediscover alternative (Mighty) stories about themselves. The School Council and Peer Mediation schemes which run at St. Cuthbert’s encourage a sense of maturity and responsibility in our children and help to give children a voice and create an atmosphere mutual respect.

This year we are continuing to support children with their learning and awareness of being healthy. The classes will be visiting Tesco to take part in the ‘Fork to Farm’ project to learn more about where food comes from and how to maintain a balanced and healthy diet. The children are involved in an ongoing project growing fruit and vegetables. The after school clubs encourage children to become involved in sports and physical activities.
